Instrumento de madera del árbol. Medidas variables: Mide entre 70 cm y 1.5 m. Suele tener entre 10 y 21 láminas y suele medir entre 40 y 60cm de alto apoyado en su base.

Idiófono. Idiófono golpeado indirectamente. Xilófono con resonadores.
Función e interpretación:
Acompañamiento del canto. Este instrumento era usado por los balafonistas, también llamados griots, para relatar epopeyas, leyes, genealogías y sucesos históricos.
